Robert Anton Wilson, RIP
.He died last week, after a long illness. His work has been a big influence on my life, so I wanted to mark his passing.
I only met him once, he gave a talk at the Learning Annex on 11 July 2001, and I went there with Juliana and Heatherly to see him. I spoke to him very briefly, letting him know his work had had a big impact on me.
I was happy to give him money last October, as were a lot of other people—they raised a significant amount of cash (over $50K, if I recall correctly) to help cover his medical expenses. Apart from that, I just read, and loved, his books.
For those of you unfamiliar with him, there are obituaries in The Independent and the New York Times.
He seemed to keep his excellent outlook on things all the way through, his final blog post ends:
I love you all and I deeply implore you to keep the lasagna flying.
Please pardon my levity, I don’t see how to take death seriously. It seems absurd.
RAW
And he has a point, yes?
To Robert Anton Wilson: thank you, goodbye, and Hail Eris.

I was touched by his sense of humour – even as he knew he was dying, he could see the absurdity of it all.
